Please leave comment or suggestion regarding the translation.

Little Busters! SS Vol. 3 is available in iPhone and iPad through iTunes Appstore and for Android in Google Play.
Also for some reason this one costs more than the other 3 I already translated previously. Maybe because it's longer?

Story synopsis:
The third official short story from the famous VN Little Busters!
It was raining right from the morning, and the daily baseball practice was cancelled. In that rainy day, Riki was reminded of that girl who spends her time under a shade of a tree, and he decided to accompany her along with the gentle sound of rain...

Word count roughly 3100 words.
It's... raining.
In the short moment when I still couldn't grasp whether it's the real life or just a dream, I heard the sound of rainfall.
Fwssh, fwssh.... Fwssh.... Fwssh.....
Fwssh, fwssh.... fwssh.....

My consciousness which was just about to be disillusioned, upon listening to that sound, gradually swung back to slumber.
Just a little bit more. It's a little bit too early to wake up.
So, for a just little more, I want to enjoy this pleasant drowsiness.

Masato
"UOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

One instant roar deafened my ears.
Drowsiness, and basically everything else were blown away at once.

Riki
"...Masato, what's up with you, this early...?"

The owner of that voice, my roommate, Inohara Masato, barked at me.

Masato
"I couldn't do it 200 times!"

Riki
"Do what?"

Masato
"When I said 200 times, of course it's about handstand push-up, duh!"

Riki
"A- ah, that's right.... (I have no idea!)"

Masato
"But, today's raining, so..."

I look out the window.

Riki
"So?"

Masato
"I'm going to train my muscles indoor. I challenge myself to do everything 200 times!"

Ehh.

Riki
"Can I open the window for a bit?"

Masato
"Don't do that. My muscles gonna cool down."

Ehhh.

Masato
"I already decided that I'm gonna achieve that goal before breakfast!"

What an expected development.

Masato
"15, 16, 17, 18......"

Beside Masato who keeps hand-standing, I prepare myself for class today.
Math, Japanese language, and... don't we also have classic literature for today?
Listening to boring class at rainy days makes me sleepy. Though, even if it's sunny, I'd be sleepy as well.
Alright, preparation complete.

Riki
"Masato, let's get going for breakfast."

Masato
"199, 200! Alright, achievement unlocked! With this, I'm prepared for my food!"

Masato stands up, shaking the sweat away from his body.

Riki
"I think you should prepare for something else...."

This room feels like sauna because of his sweat.

Masato
"What's up, Riki? You're looking as if this is a muscle sauna.... You're hinting that this could be the start of a very popular sauna for girls which can do muscle home delivery... "Muscle Delivery"... or "Musclivery"... is that right?"

Riki
"No, not in the slightest."

Masato
"Really...? Well, alright. If it really turns out to be a muscle popular for girls, it's gonna be like a one-hit wonder celebrity. That's great, huff..."

Saying that, he finally starts preparing to leave as well.
Finally done waiting him to finish, I open the umbrella and head outside.
In times like this you can feel how convenient it is to live in the dorm. We can get to school in no time.
With such short distance, we don't even have to worry about getting wet.

I enter the classroom and put my bag to my seat. There's still time before class starts.
For some reason I try to look out from the window.
Shifting my line of sight, there is the sport ground we have been heading to almost everyday after school just recently.
Even the place where we usually hit the balls and run around on, now is wet, becoming a giant water puddle.
In the corner of the school yard, the lush green trees are getting beaten up by the rain. It looks like they're hanging their head.
The drops of rain falling from the leaves melt away together with the dull scenery.
It somehow reminds me of myself back then —when I was a kid, when I haven't met Kyousuke and others— so I look away spontaneously.

Kurugaya
"What's wrong, young man? Do you dislike rain?"

Before I knew it, Kurugaya-san has already been standing beside me.
Just as usual, I couldn't feel her presence.

After we exchanged some greetings,

Riki
"Well, I guess."

I nod.

Kurugaya
"Um, that's because of young man Masato's spreading smelly sweat, isn't it?"

Riki
"Hahaha, bullseye. Also, if it's sunny the mood is brighter, right?"

While suppressing the emotions that was about to break out abruptly just now, I replied with a smile.

Kurugaya
"By the way, Onee-san doesn't dislike rain."

Saying that, Kurugaya-san glances to the classroom entrance.
Right at that moment, Kud comes in.
But, her appearance....

Riki
"Kud, what happened?"

Kud's white shirt is all wet.

Kud
"...Rolling Kudryavka Gathers No Rain...."

A reply full with funny contradictions as always. That's totally not "No Rain" at all.

Kud
"Bad mo-ning...."

Shaking and wiggling her flaxen hair, she made light splashes. The tip of her hair bounced back.
....Really, she's just like a dog.

Riki
"Are you alri-... Doesn't seem so."

Even if I said so, I don't know what to do.
She doesn't bring spare clothes. Moreover, she's a girl. When I was about to ask Kurugaya-san for help, I looked at her and...

Kurugaya
"What is it, young man? Rain isn't that bad, right?"

Her gaze was watching Kud's chest area.
The drenched wet white shirt has stuck to Kud's body as if it's glued on.
The color of her skin which can be seen faintly through the shirt is so surprisingly white.
It's really beautiful....

Kurugaya
"Riki-kun, how perverted. You're totally staring."

Kurugaya-san spoke softly like whispering to me.

Kud
"Tschoo."

And Kud sneezes so cutely.

Kurugaya
"First thing of all, at this rate Kudryavka-kun is going to catch a cold."

Making a worried face, Kurugaya-san approached Kud.

Kurugaya
"You can use this."

Then she gives her the towel she brought.

Kud
"Kurugaya-san, sankyuu."

Kurugaya
"Nah. We just help each other in need."

At times she often makes trouble, but she really is a nice person.

Kud
"Thank you very much."

Using the towel, she wiped Kud's wet hair.

Kurugaya
"By the way, Kudryavka-kun. Your hair is dry now, but your clothes are still wet."

Kud
"? ....Ah! Th- that's right. What should I do?"

Kurugaya
"Hm, that's right. ....Riki-kun, what are you looking at with such brooding gaze?"

E- ehhh. I didn't do anything.
Actually, Kurugaya-san looks more like it...

Kurugaya
"What's with your eyes? Assuming something?"

Riki
"N- Not at all."

Kurugaya
"That's good then. Anyway, since I expected this kind of thing would happen, I already prepared some extra clothes."

Kud
"Are you serious? ....I mean, O RLY? хорошо!"

Kurugaya
"Ha ha ha. Providing is preventing, that's how I am."

Kud
"Thank you very much."

Saying that, Kurugaya-san takes out something from her bag. Navy blue, that cloth is....

Riki
"Wait, isn't that sport bloomer?"

To begin with, the girls in this school wear sport shorts for PE. But seriously, why and how does she have that?

Kurugaya
"Of course I have the top as well."

In her hand is white gym uniform.

Kurugaya
"This is mine, so maybe it's a little too big for Miss Noumi. Though, the bottom should be perfect fit."

Ermm, it seems that Kurugaya-san went out her way to prepare a sport bloomer in Kud's size.
Then, why didn't she provide the top in Kud's size as well...?

Kurugaya
"Young man, you see? Too big means baggy. Baggy means you can peek it from above."

Saying that, she bent forward.

The breast part of Kurugaya-san's uniform comes to my sight. Why is her uniform so revealing?

Kurugaya
"It's supposed to be like this. Truly moe."

Kud
"Ah, umm, guys.... I feel a little cold here."

Kurugaya
"That's not good. Let's get changed immediately."

Kud
"Aye aye, roger."

Kurugaya
"We can't do it here, there are people watching. Let's go to the ladies' room."

Kurugaya-san, pushing Kud's back, is about to leave the classroom.

Kud
"U- umm...."

Kud looks at me.
I don't really know but somehow her gaze is clinging on me.

Kurugaya
"Swift and decisive should be the ideal of soldiers. Let's go immediately. You're coming too, Riki-kun?"

Riki
"No, I can't."

Kurugaya
"If you change into girl's uniform I already prepared for you in advance, there won't be any problem."

Riki
"No, it'll just raise other greater problems...."

Kurugaya
"Ha ha ha. Well, just take it slow and go after us."

...I'm sorry, Kud.

After they left, the classroom becomes so quiet.
There's almost no time left before class starts. I wonder if they'll be able to make it in time.
Again, I look out from the window.
The number of student coming in is getting fewer.
Though, looking at the ground, the number of ripples spreading on the puddle doesn't change at all.
Watching the circles one after another and remembering the uproar just now, somehow I feel peculiar.

And school's over.

Riki
"In the end, it's raining all day today."

After that time, Kud returned wearing gym shirt and sport bloomer she borrowed from Kurugaya-san.
By the time the white shirt has dried, for some unknown reason, she's wearing it on top of the gym shirt, and still wearing sport bloomer for bottoms.

Nishizono
"Naoe-san..... What a maniac."

Her turnabout way to call me was impressive.
Not that I want to be called like that though.

Speaking of Nishizono-san...
I wonder what she's going to do in such rain. We don't have any baseball practice after school today. Kyousuke told us to do "independent practice", but it seems only Masato who is enthusiastic about that.
I can't see her figure in the classroom. Probably she's going straight to the dorm, because it's Nishizono-san we're talking about. Or maybe, even in this rain, she's going to the usual place to read books.

Let's try look for her.

Once I'm out the building, the rain has subsided to drizzle. Though, not subsided enough to play baseball.
On the courtyard —which doesn't have many people even on sunny day— inside the slow steady rain, it felt like I am inside an isolated space, detached from the surroundings.
In the center of that space, there's a single Zelkova tree, and the same-as-ever figure of a girl standing beneath it.
As I thought, instead of her usual parasol, Nishizono-san is using a white umbrella this time.
I walk forward, approaching her.
Noticing my footsteps, she slowly turned her body to face me and quietly smiled.

Nishizono
"Welcome, Naoe-san."

Being invited by those words, I set my foot to that closed space.

Riki
"Have you been waiting for me?"

I involuntarily asked the true meaning of that sentence — as if she had already knew that I'd come.

Nishizono
"No. Of course not."

She cheerfully denied it with a smile.

Nishizono
"I'm just waiting."

Riki
"For what?"

Nishizono-san is really hard to understand just like always.

Nishizono
"That's...."

When she was about to answer it, her phone ringed. ......and it stopped immediately. Seems that she just got a mail.
The melody just now, I think I heard it somewhere before.
Putting aside our conversation up until now, I asked about it.

Riki
"Hey, what's that music just now?"

Nishizono
"Ah, this is...."

She told me. It's from old anime.

Riki
"I see. I watched that too when I was little."

If it's about soccer, all of us would be addicted on soccer.
Just like usual, Kyousuke was the one who brings it up, then we'd run around the ground dribbling the ball, competing against Masato and Kengo.
As expected, we just couldn't gather 11 people to play (there were only five of us including Rin), so we could only kick the ball around.
...and this time, we managed to gather 10 people for baseball.

Nishizono
"What's about it?"

Riki
"No, it's nothing. I just felt that it's pretty nostalgic. So, you like that too, Nishizono-san?"

I found it surprising since it's an anime targeted for boys.

Nishizono
"...that's the starting point."

Riki
"Starting point?"

Nishizono
"Yes."

She nods.

Riki
"I- Is that so..."

I don't really get it, but it seems that it'd be better if I don't ask further.

Riki
"But, you seems to be able to set your own ringtone."

Maybe she downloaded it from some website and set it up as a ring tone.
Judging from Nishizono-san's skill, I think it must be quite hard to do.

Nishizono
"It's entirely an act of love."

Riki
"I- Is that so..."

I guess I shouldn't think too deep about it.
Well, I know it must be— It's always about that.
When I noticed it, Nishizono-san showed a somehow troubled face.

Riki
"What is it?"

Nishizono
"Well.... The mail just now. I'm troubled."

I wonder who sent her the message. Is it another dirty-joke mail from Kurugaya-san?
I take a peek on Nishizono-san's cellphone screen.

[You can meet someone with the same interest!]

It's a mail started with that one sentence.
Isn't this the so-called spam mail?

Nishizono
"What should I do, Naoe-san? For me, I feel like I want to find someone with the same interest with me. See, it's also written here that women are free of charge."

Riki
"No. That's an absolute no."

Nishizono-san looks puzzled upon hearing my strong tone.

Nishizono
"Um, Naoe-san?"

Riki
"Nishizono-san, this mail is..."

I have to explain about spam mail to her.

Riki
"It'll direct you to shady website, and when you think it's for free, in the fraud meetup you'll be forced to pay a huge amount of money."

Nishizono
"...oh."

Nishizono-san seems to be thinking deeply about something.

Nishizono
"I see. To think that there's such horrible thing in the world of mobile phone... Dangerous, so dangerous."

She clasped her hands and praised.

Riki
"W- well, if you don't open the links excessively, I guess it's alright."

Nishizono
"I'll try my best to be careful."

Riki
"If possible, maybe it's better to change your mail address. Try combining alphabet letters and numbers, make it more complex."

Nishizono
"...?"

Her face is filled with questions.

Riki
"U- uh... Let's do that later. For now, I think you should immediately delete that one which just came in."

Nishizono
"How do we do it?"

Riki
"Eerm..."

I wonder if she'd remember this as "an act of love" as well....
As always, she seems to be weak at this, even at basic operations. I take the phone from her and delete the spam mail.
Nishizono-san seems to be embarrassed for some reason when trying to thank me, so I change the topic.

Riki
"Anyway, it's really raining a lot."

I turn my view to the raindrops falling down along the tip of the green grass decorating the courtyard.
Then, I almost see my old self again overlapping in the scenery.

Nishizono
"Naoe-san, do you dislike rain?"

As if she's peeking at me, she asked me behind the shade of her umbrella.

Riki
"Yeah, that's right."

Kurugaya-san also asked me the same thing.

Nishizono
"Is it because it's getting hot in the room with Inohara-san?"

Riki
"Ahaha, bullseye."

Nishizono
"I can easily imagine it. Inohara-san, covered in liquid either sweat or raindrops.... It's not beautiful."

Nishizono-san let out a small sigh.

Nishizono
"But, it seems that it's going to end soon. The western wind is strong."

Riki
"Is that so?"

The wind grazes my cheek as if it's responding to Nishizono-san's words.

Indeed, I thought that the streaks of the pouring rain are getting even weaker.

Riki
"By the way, you hate rain as well, don't you? With such weather, you can't comfortably read books outdoor, right?"

Nishizono
"That is not true. If I wear a raincoat and spread plastic sheet on the ground, I can just read book on the courtyard or wherever I want to."

Riki
"I see."

Ah, I think I understand.

Nishizono
"...you should have said "What the heck" just now."

Riki
"Sorry. It's just easy to imagine you doing that."

Nishizono
"Even I won't go that far just to read book out here... probably."

Riki
"Well, why are you here then?"

Nishizono
"And why did Naoe-san come here?"

Riki
"Me? Eh, I... Because I'm curious whether you'd still reading outside or not, even in this rain."

Nishizono
"....just what kind of person do you usually think of me, Naoe-san?"

Nishizono-san slightly gives a wry smile.

Nishizono
"I am waiting."

She said that as well from the very start.
Though, we got interrupted by the spam mail.

Riki
"What are you waiting?"

Nishizono
"...."

Nishizono-san stays silent, not answering my question.

Riki
"Nishizono-san?"

Nishizono
"Ssh, be quiet."

Placing her index finger in front of her lips, she gestured to make me silent.

Riki
"U-um. ...alright."

Just like that, I watched her.

Fssh.... fssssh.... fsssh.

Only the faint sound of rain hits my ear. Nishizono-san, once again, keeps her focus on that sound.
The melody of raindrops - which felt just like counting up the old scars - carved in my mind one by one.
I wonder if she is waiting for this sound.

My body was drenched in cold rain when I was left alone, before Kyousuke, Rin, Masato and Kengo reached out their hands to me. That memory has faded long ago, and I don't remember it so often, but at times, like when the pebble thrown on water puddle creates a ripple, my heart sways.
Sadness. Confusion. Loneliness. Wall.
Being all alone is so painful, so lonely.
For no reason I feel like crying.
As if it's a punishment for the original sin carved into us.
That is why I long for friends.
And then, my friends are right beside me.
I look at Nishizono-san standing next to me.
Just like the words she said — "waiting", she has been watching at a point on the sky.
It's really quiet. But... it's not lonely.
I notice.
This tranquility is different with the one just now.

Nishizono
"The rain has stopped."

Nishizono-san brightens. Then, I finally understand.
That's right. The sound of rain is no longer here.
The sound of rain disappears into silence and before I knew it, I was enveloped in gentle, warm atmosphere.

Nishizono
"It's really strange, isn't it? When it was raining, it was so quiet that it emphasizes the loneliness."

Nishizono-san tilts the umbrella and looks up to the sky. Beyond her gaze is a single streak of light.
The thin clouds break, and the sunlight comes down like curtain.

Riki
"Are you waiting for this?"

So Nishizono-san stays here to see the moment the rainy sky changes into clear blue sky.

Nishizono
"...don't you think it's beautiful?"

The little birds which took shelter from the rain under the Zelkova leaves, fly off to the sky after the rain one by one.

Riki
"Yeah, you're right."

The time we saw them off, the western sky started to turn madder red gradually.

Nishizono
"It's already sunset, so I'm sure tomorrow will be sunny."

Curving her lips upward, Nishizono-san silently smiles.

Nishizono
"Let's read books together again tomorrow, in this place."

Riki
"With the boxed lunch too, right?"

Nishizono
"...how greedy, Naoe-san."

While saying so, Nishizono-san silently smiled again.
